The Georgetown Water Department and Utility Director Marlene Ladderbush ask the community to join in recognizing Drinking Water Week 2022, which celebrates the work of water professionals and acknowledges the vital role drinking water plays in health and safety.

Drinking Water Week is organized annually by the American Water Works Association (AWWA). It is scheduled for May 1-7 this year, and highlights the slogan “There When You Need It.”

An AWWA survey conducted in June 2021 showed that more than seven in 10 Americans indicated they are satisfied with their tap water and nearly three-quarters of respondents said they felt their tap water is safe.

With the recent passage of the U.S. Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, renewing and upgrading water infrastructure is a priority, demonstrating the vital role it plays in protecting public health.

“Water is indispensable to our everyday lives, from cooking and cleaning to hygiene,” Director Ladderbush said. “We ask everyone to take a few minutes and think about how water gets to your tap, and about the many professionals who work tirelessly to ensure a safe and secure drinking water supply.”
