Georgetown’s water supply comes from three treated wells. Massachusetts water systems, including Georgetown’s, are regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP). These organizations ensure your water meets all safety standards. 

The Georgetown Water Department not only ensures safe drinking water, but also manages water usage under the Water Management Act, which sets limits on how much water Georgetown can use each year. 

This limit is based on factors like per-person usage, which must remain below 65 gallons per day. High water use, especially during the summer, can trigger water bans to protect our resources. 

During the hot summer months, nonessential water use causes water demand to double. This puts extra strain on our wells, filtration system and staff. To manage this, we enforce water bans and encourage smart water use. Learn more
