Dear Residents,

With the onset of colder weather, the Georgetown Water Department would like to remind residents to winterize their homes to prevent freezing pipes and inform residents that the Fall Flushing Program is planned to begin on October 4th with proposed areas of work as follows:

  • For the week of October 4th — Baldpate Road, Andover St, West St, Central Street/Nelson Street/Littles Hill/Lake Shore Drive areas.
  • For the week of October 12th — (no flushing Columbus Day) West Main Street/East Main Street/Elm Street/Tenney Street/Searle Street areas.
  • For the week of October 18th — North Street/Pond Street areas.
  • For the week of October 25th — Jewett Street/Thurlow Street areas.
  • For the week of November 1st — Jackman Street/Warren Street areas.

Residents of these areas may experience low or no water pressure while flushing is ongoing. The water pressure should be restored when flushing is finished in that area. Any discoloration or change in water clarity should be gone by end of day. Those wanting to expedite the process may do so by running water from a high-volume faucet — such as a bathtub — until water runs clear.

Residents are encouraged to avoid doing laundry while flushing is occurring in their neighborhood in order to prevent damage to clothing.

The water system undergoes flushing twice a year to help ensure sustained water quality and clarity and support the longevity of the system’s infrastructure.

Flushing will take place Monday-Friday from approximately 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Watch the department’s website www.georgetownwater.org for updates.

With sincere appreciation,
Marlene Ladderbush
Utility Director GWD
