Georgetown Water Department Announces Mandatory Water Restriction

GEORGETOWN — Utility director Marlene Ladderbush announces that the Georgetown Water Department has implemented a mandatory outdoor watering restriction. 

The mandatory restriction is in effect daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and residents are asked to refrain from all non-essential water use during those hours in order to help conserve resources.

With the mandatory restriction, residents with odd-numbered addresses may partake in non-essential watering on Mondays and Thursdays outside the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., while residents with even-numbered addresses can use water outdoors on Tuesdays and Fridays outside the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

At this time, there is no non-essential watering allowed on the weekend at any time of day.

The Georgetown Water Department will continue to monitor streamflow conditions and determine if and when a mandatory restriction is needed, but residents are required to adhere to the current mandatory restriction.

Georgetown Water Department Reminds Residents of Ongoing Drought After Lifting Water Ban

GEORGETOWN — Utility Director Marlene Ladderbush announces that the Georgetown Water Department has lifted its water ban, but that residents should be mindful of ongoing drought conditions.

While the water ban has been lifted, residents are asked to continue their conservation efforts as Georgetown remains in a Level 2 — Significant Drought — area.

The ongoing drought is the result of more than five months of below normal rainfall and above normal temperatures, which has had significant adverse impacts on streamflows and begun to have impacts on groundwater — which Georgetown uses as its water source.

As a result, residents should continue to limit their nonessential water use by only , and should also be mindful of potential undetected leaks in their homes that may contribute to

Georgetown Water Department Announces Planned Fire Flow Testing

The Georgetown Water Department announces that it will be conducting fire flow testing on Central Street. 

On Wednesday, Aug. 19 at approximately 10 a.m., the Georgetown Water Department will be conducting fire flow testing in CVS side parking lot at 65 Central St., which may result in temporary discoloration or water pressure disruption in the Central Street vicinity. Though outdoor water use is prohibited between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., the testing is being done within this time to ensure staff availability and to limit the impact on drivers in the area.   

The Department periodically conducts fire flow testing to ensure that water supply and pressure is sufficient to support firefighting efforts, should the need arise. The test is conducted by opening a fire hydrant.

“We apologize in advance for any inconvenience or disruption that may occur, and thank you for your understanding,” Utility Director Marlene Ladderbush said. “While we recognize the inconvenience this can have on our residents and businesses, this mandated testing is an important way to ensure that the system is working properly should a fire occur in the area.”

Georgetown Water Department Updates Outdoor Water Use Restrictions

GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown Water Department is still under enhanced water restrictions due to Level 2- significant drought conditions within the Parker River basin.

Outdoor lawn and garden watering is prohibited between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily until further notice.

Also until further notice   Odd/Even enhanced restrictions will be mandated.

Odd numbered addresses may only water  on odd calendar days (outside of ban hours).

Even numbered addresses may only water on even calendar days (outside of ban hours).

Residents are urged to adjust their irrigation system controllers to outside ban hours.

The Georgetown Water Department utilizes emergency restrictions or bans on non-essential water use to reduce water consumption by residents as the department measures water supply and demand.

 

Water Department staff will monitor the community and violators will be notified.

 

1st offense – warning of noncompliance

2nd offense – $50 fine

3rd offense – removal from water system
