The Georgetown Water Department is being mandated by the Mass. D.E.P. to implement water conservation measures. In order to better monitor our water system, we will be requiring all in ground irrigation systems to be registered with the Water Department. All future installations will require a permit. System design and capacity must be included in the permit application.
The reason behind this mandate is the sudden proliferation of underground irrigation systems throughout the community, especially on new construction. The surge in growth of these systems has impacted our pumping capacity during summer months. In order to maintain the quality and quantity of domestic water and fire protection for the Town of Georgetown this regulation must be strictly adhered to.
